CPR AMONG JUNIOR DOCTORS

Nowadays, issues of junior doctor become national issues. Some of them not well performed in skills during work and still need supervision from senior. Some of them have good knowledge but poor in attitude and confidence level during work. A survey has been done to evaluate the knowledge, attitude & confidence level among junior doctor in Kota Bharu. There is a lot of room for improvement in dealing with this issue. Click here

Salam. I realised that Malaysian hospitals adopt AHA guideline which has modified its CPR flow from A-B-C to C-B-A. I'm currently working in the UK and the most recent 2010 UK Resus Council (in-hospital) guideline still advocate A-B-C approach with simultaneous airway, breathing and carotid pulse check of no more than 10 sec and proceed with compression unless the attendant is confident that there is a regular pulse >60/ breathing effort/evidence of spontaneous circulation. There rest i.e no initial rescue breath (except in special cases e.g drowning, paeds) etc are the same.

I wonder from your experience in Malaysia if there is evidence to support this modification for initial in-hospital resuscitation i.e. difference in survival rate post resuscitation? What difference does it make as we all know that ultimately early defibrillation is the key to ROSC?

Will I need to repeat my CPR training once I return to Malaysia even I've done my Advanced Life Support/ Advanced Trauma Life Support in the UK?

Wassalam

salam dr kahirul. maaf saya baru baca message. lama sgt x update blog. Utk ATLS x perlu sbb masih spt dulu. Cuma ACLS, di malaysia kita guna AHA 2010 in most emergency department (C-A-B). Yes, i do agree europe & america have different system & always different in certain guideline. Theoritically yes, there is evidence from guideline to change to CAB but no local data yet. If dr come back to Malaysia, it's depend on your centre which guideline to use. Malaysia Resus Council belum come out with malaysia guideline yet..harap membantu.
